Common questions
How much does it cost to fix a flat tire?
A plug-and-patch repair in the tread usually costs $15–35 at an independent shop, and some chains repair flats free on tires bought from them. Punctures in the sidewall or wider than a quarter inch cannot be safely repaired and need a replacement tire.
Are used tires safe to buy?
They can be, if the tread is deep enough and the tire is not too old. Look for at least 4/32 of an inch of tread, check the four-digit date code on the sidewall (week and year — many shops will not sell tires older than six years), and skip any tire with bulges, cracks or patches near the sidewall.
Can a tire shop come to my house?
Mobile tire services bring the tires, a mounting machine and a balancer in a van and install them at your home, workplace or the roadside. Expect a trip fee on top of the tire price, and call ahead to make sure they carry your size.
Where can I get semi truck tires repaired?
Commercial tire centers and truck tire shops handle 22.5- and 24.5-inch tires, retreads and road service for fleets, and many dispatch service trucks to highways and truck stops. Regular car tire shops usually cannot mount commercial truck tires.
